Bharat Bandh on Feb 16

New Delhi: Farmers have called for a nationwide strike and “Grameen Bharat Bandh” (Rural India Shutdown) on Friday, February 16th, potentially impacting daily life across the country.

The farmers’ body, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), urged all farmer organizations to join the day-long protest, starting from 6 AM to 4 PM. News reports suggest farmers plan nationwide “chakka jams” (road blockades) on major roads from 12 PM to 4 PM, while Punjab may see closures of state and national highways for the entire period.

Will daily operations be affected?

While the official holiday list for banks doesn’t include February 16th, India.com reports that various private and government offices, village shops, and transportation services may remain shut in solidarity with the protest. Additionally, agricultural activities, MNREGA rural works, and rural industrial and service institutions are likely to be affected.

Essential services remain open:

Emergency services like ambulances and medical shops are expected to operate normally. Students appearing for board exams are also unaffected by the Bharat Bandh.
