BHU Student Gang-Rape Case:3 Suspected

The disturbing case of the gang-rape of an IIT BHU student, the Varanasi Police have successfully apprehended three suspects accused of the heinous crime. According to various local media reports, the arrested individuals have alleged ties to the BJP IT cell, raising questions about their affiliation and sparking public outrage.

The apprehended suspects have been identified as Kunal Pandey from Brij Enclave Colony Sunderpur, along with Anand alias Abhishek Chauhan and Saksham Patel from Jivadhipur Bajardiha. Notably, Kunal Pandey reportedly holds a position as the metropolitan coordinator in the BJP IT cell in Varanasi, while Saksham Patel serves as the Varanasi metropolitan co-convenor in the same IT cell.

The incident that shocked the nation occurred on the night of November 1 at the IIT BHU campus, where three youths on motorcycles allegedly coerced a female student at gunpoint. The assailants forced her to undress, subjected her to a brutal assault, and committed the heinous act of gang rape while recording the reprehensible act on video.

The victim, a B.Tech student in the Department of Mathematical Engineering, was walking with a friend near the Gandhi Smriti Hostel intersection on the campus when the perpetrators intercepted them. The friend was sent away, leaving the victim vulnerable to the assailants’ vicious attack.

Following the assault, the police initiated an extensive investigation, scrutinizing footage from over 170 closed-circuit cameras on the BHU IIT campus. After nearly two months of tireless efforts by the Crime Branch and Lanka police station, Kunal Pandey and his associate were apprehended for interrogation, marking a pivotal moment in the pursuit of justice for the victim.

However, media reports and social media posts have stirred controversy by alleging the involvement of BJP IT cell members in this horrifying crime. Speculations surfaced that the arrested individuals were associated with the BJP and enjoyed immunity due to their alleged connections with senior BJP leaders. These claims have sparked a fierce response from political figures, notably the president of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, who took to social media to highlight the purported nexus between the accused and influential BJP figures.

The development of arrests has reignited public discourse on women’s safety and the accountability of individuals holding positions of power. It has prompted a renewed call for stringent action against perpetrators of sexual violence and has sparked debates on the need for stronger measures to safeguard women, particularly in educational institutions.

While the investigation is ongoing, the arrests represent a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice for the victim and serve as a testament to the dedicated efforts of law enforcement agencies in unraveling this distressing case.

The apprehension of the accused, particularly those allegedly associated with a prominent political entity, underscores the necessity for impartial and thorough investigations to ensure justice prevails, regardless of the individuals’ affiliations or positions.

As the investigation progresses, the nation waits with bated breath for further developments in this harrowing case and hopes for swift and fair justice for the survivor, while reaffirming the collective commitment to combatting heinous crimes against women in society.
