In a meeting to review readiness before Cyclone Biprajoy made landfall in Gujarat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stressed the importance of “zero casualties.” CM Patel, Mansukh Mandaviya, Parshottam Rupala, other Union ministers, MPs, MLAs from Gujarat, the Chief Secretary and District Magistrates, the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Member Secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs were present at the virtual meeting, which was presided over by Shah. He also laid emphasis on the goal to reduce any potential harm brought on by the cyclone “Biparjoy.” He stated that it is imperative to move quickly in response to the crucial directives issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 12.
According to Shah, the Centre has sent out a necessary number of NDRF troops to assist in relief and rescue efforts.Along with this, he added, resources from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard have been sent out to assist as needed.
Additionally, he stated that the state government control room and the Ministry of Home Affairs are continuously monitoring the situation and that all of the Center’s agencies are equipped to handle any emergency. Shah also promised the state government any assistance necessary.
Additionally, he requested that the state government establish plans to relocate residents of sensitive areas to safer areas and ensure that all essential utilities, such as electricity, telecommunications, health care, and drinking water, are available. According to him, the readiness should be such that these services might be rapidly restored in the event of any harm.
Amit Shah also gave the order to make sure that all hospitals have alternate electricity sources, cellphone and landline connectivity, and both. He underlined the importance of reviewing the essential precautions to deal with it and stated that the storm is predicted to bring 8 to 10 inches of rain, which may create flooding in Kutch and Saurashtra.
Additionally, he requested that all required preparations be made in the area of the Dwarka and Somnath temples. According to him, the safety of the animals and plants in the Gir Forest should also be protected in accordance with the Prime Minister’s directives.
Shah also urged Gujarat’s MPs and MLAs to inform residents of the danger posed by the cyclone in their local districts and to assist them.Shah was updated by the Director General of the IMD on the condition of the extremely dangerous cyclonic storm “Biparjoy” over the eastern Arabian Sea.
As a very severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 125–135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph, it is expected to move nearly northward until June 14 morning, then move north-northeast wards and cross Saurashtra and Kutch as well as adjacent Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by noon on June 15.
Shah was also informed by Gujarat’s Chief Minister on the local government’s preparations and safety measures for those living in the predicted route of the cyclone.According to Patel, fishermen have been urged not to go out to sea and those who are at sea have been asked to return to land.
“So far, there have been a total of 21,595 boats, 27 ships, and 24 huge ships. For the goal of evacuation, a list of critical villages has been created, the official said.Patel also disclosed that 450 hospitals had been located in the storm-prone zones and that supplies of vital medications had been secured.
The Chief Minister added that 597 teams have been sent out to ensure power delivery, and sufficient shelters have also been set up.Additionally, he stated that 12 teams of the SDRF and 18 teams of the NDRF had been deployed.
