BJP leader Mohammad Shadab Shams who was elected unopposed as the new president of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board has said that the Waqf Board will purchase its own bulldozer to free Waqf properties from illegal possession and encroachment.

Mohammad Shadab Shams has been associated with BJP in different capacities including that of a party spokesperson. He was handed over the certificate of unopposed election by Principal Secretary (Minority Welfare) L Fanai at the Dehradun Secretariat.

A Waqf Board is a legal organisation that ensures appropriate administration of Waqf properties and oversees that any revenue generated by them is being used in line with Muslim principles and law.

Soon after getting elected, Shams said there are properties worth approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore under the Waqf Board. A lot of these properties are under illegal possession, he said adding “These properties are for the poor. Our main priority is to free these properties.

“We will run a bulldozer on Waqf mafias and those involved in encroachment. We have our own tribunal and our own court to free our properties — what we did not have so far is the willpower.” Shams said.

Also making a big statement, Mohammad Shadab Shams said that the Waqf Board will ensure that madrasas under it have English-medium education, and as per the Uttarakhand Board syllabus.

Not stopping just there, Shams added that the Waqf Board would convert madrasas into schools and prepare a system where even Hindu students can study.

The waqf board chief said he had discussions with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and informed him that the waqf will bring the proposal to buy its own ‘Dhakad Dhami’ (Fearless Dhami) bulldozer in the next Board meeting.
