Come July and wedding season is back in India. What qualifies as a summer wedding in India (April-May), fits into the late spring bracket in the West. With fashion becoming more about comfort and a personal style statement, the traditional bridal do is being increasingly ditched for a softer and warmer look.
Deciding what to wear on your big day comes loaded with possibilities. Sometimes, the heartfelt wish is lost either due to budget constraints or because one is spoilt for choice in a market filled with endless designs. Well, here’s a ready reckoner for brides-to-be this wedding season:
Tip 1: Do an online recce
Trends change every season. Whether it is the cut of the lehenga or the length of the blouse, you sure would not want to look like a dated or retro bride. Check out the colours because that is the one thing that is changing fastest. Even the taboo white is being preferred hands down over the traditional red. The embroidery must also be paid attention to. Sometimes the ruling fads sway towards stones, sometimes it is zari and Parsi work and sometimes it is the heavy zardozi. Armed with what’s in and what’s not, the choices can be narrowed down.
Tip 2: Fix your budget
Bridal attires are an expensive affair and there’s no upper limit. You have to be sure how much you can stretch up to. Also remember, that these pieces are worn only once. Is it worth putting that huge sum into? Unless, you are looking at preserving them as an heirloom to be passed down, do not go overboard.
Tip 3: Plan well in advance
Start the planning and recce at least six months prior to your wedding. It takes time because remember, trial sessions happen only three to four weeks after you place the order. Then comes the time needed to alter. Above all, if your outfit is ready, matching accessories and make-up tones also need attention fine-tuned to get that perfect look.
Tip 4: Keep the season in mind
Are you a summer bride or a winter one? The choice of fabric will be governed by the time and clime. If you go in for a velvet look during summer, the heat will play spoilsport with your make up and maybe your total look. If it be a winter morning affair, you certainly do not want to look upstaged by the weather in a pastel or even jewelled tones. All in all, do not disregard the weather factor while zeroing in on choices.
Tip 5: Co-ordinated look
Remember your wedding is a one-day affair. The memories will stay forever. So, do check out on what to-be-spouse is donning. If he is opting for a regal look in an emerald green, it might be a good idea to choose a colour that complements it. Also, invest in a good photographer. The light makes all the difference and if your budget is not a huge concern, hire a pro.
Tip 6: Be sure to sleep well the night before
No amount of make-up helps if sleep deprivation is written all across your face. And that exhausted look cannot be made up by clothes and make up. Be sure to rest well. Above all, enjoy!! For most, it is a special day and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
