A privacy scandal has emerged from Rajkot after CCTV footage of pregnant women during medical check-ups was leaked from Payal Maternity Hospital. The footage, which surfaced on Monday, has also initiated an investigation by the state’s cybercrime team following their circulation on platforms.
The videos were initially uploaded to YouTube and later shared across various Telegram groups, where they quickly gained attention. The footage, which captured private moments during medical check-ups, was traced back to Payal Hospital.
Hospital authorities, under the management of Dr Amit Akbari, confirmed the footage was recorded within their facility but stated that the CCTV system had been hacked.
A team from the cybercrime unit has arrived at the hospital to investigate the breach. Initial findings indicate that the videos were uploaded to a YouTube channel created on January 6 before being circulated in Telegram groups, some of which have over 90 members.
The leaked footage, which includes conversations in Gujarati, was found alongside videos from South India.
Further investigations have revealed that the videos are being sold on social media platforms, including Telegram, with subscription fees ranging from Rs 900 to Rs 1500. The “Mega Demos Group” channel has been identified as a key platform where the footage is being traded.
Authorities are now working to shut down these channels and halt the illegal distribution.
