Rajkot-Gondal Death Case: Ex-BJP MLA’s Family Accused, CBI Probe Sought

| Updated: March 12, 2025 15:52

The death of a Rajasthani youth in Rajkot’s Gondal has started a political storm, drawing national attention and prompting demands for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. The case centres around former BJP MLA Jayrajsinh Jadeja and his son, Ganesh Jadeja, following the discovery of 25-year-old Rajkumar Jat’s body near Targhadiya Bridge.

Rajkumar Jat, a UPSC aspirant and resident of Gayatrinagar in Gondal, had been missing since March 3, 2025.

His father, Ratanlal Jat, a street food vendor, filed a written complaint with the Superintendent of Police, directly accusing Ganesh Jadeja and his associates of assaulting him and his son on March 2.

“My worst fear has come true,” said Ratanlal. “I strongly suspect my son was murdered. Whatever the truth is, we just want justice.”

According to Rajkot Rural Police, CCTV footage from March 2 captured an altercation between Rajkumar and his father.

Police reports indicate Rajkumar left his home at 2 am on March 3, later visiting the Ramdham Ashram and leaving at 2 am on March 4.

On the same day, around 3 pm, an unidentified man, later confirmed as Rajkumar, was found critically injured on Targhadiya Bridge along the Rajkot-Ahmedabad National Highway.

Emergency services transported him to Rajkot Government Hospital, where he was declared dead at 3:42 pm. His body was identified by family members on March 9 after post-mortem procedures.

Rajkumar’s brother-in-law, Arjun, revealed that Rajkumar had a minor scuffle with 5-7 individuals while passing by Jayrajsinh’s farmhouse before his disappearance.

“Now, with the police linking his disappearance to an accident, we are demanding a forensic postmortem. We need the truth,” Arjun asserted.

The case has gained traction in Rajasthan, with RLP Party MP Hanuman Beniwal openly demanding a CBI investigation.

Beniwal indirectly accused the former MLA and his family in a social media post, insisting on an impartial probe. “The Jat community will not tolerate injustice. Gujarat Police must avoid unethical pressure on the victim’s family and take immediate legal action,” Beniwal stated.

In Gujarat, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Amit Chavda called for a discussion under notice 116 in the Assembly.

He criticised the state government, labelling the situation as ‘jungle raj‘ and accusing the police of focusing on minor social media arrests while ignoring serious crimes.

“The sequence of events—assault, disappearance, and sudden death—is deeply suspicious. Accountability and justice are paramount,” Chavda emphasised.

The police has initiated an investigation, including DNA tests for the victim and family members.
