In a typical instance of locking the stable after the horses have bolted, the Ahmedabad District Child Protection Unit has asked media outlets not to reveal the identity of the child, abandoned in Gandhinagar, after the case was extensively covered by media and the Government. Photos and videos have been shared by the Government that revealed the identity of the kid.

Not only has the 10-month-old baby boy been named, but also his father, mother, and the father’s live-in partner. The case became the talk of the town with the print, digital and electronic media having covered almost all every aspect of the case.
Currently, the child has been declared “in need of care and protection” by the Child and Welfare Committee of Gandhinagar and the District Child Protection Unit of Ahmedabad has issued a letter to all Editors of Media houses emphasising Section 74 in the Juvenile Justice Act.
The letter cites Section 74 which states “No report in any newspaper, magazine, news-sheet or audio-visual media or other forms of communication regarding any inquiry or investigation or judicial procedure, shall disclose the name, address or school or any other particular, which may lead to the identification of a child in conflict with the law or a child in need of care and protection or a child victim or witness of a crime”.

Government in Action
MoS Home Harsh Sanghvi – who has personally monitored the case visited Gandhinagar Civil hospital where the kid was taken. He was seen holding the kid and also congratulating Gandhinagar police for solving the case within 24 hours in one of his tweets.
Background
A 10-month old toddler was found abandoned outside a Gaushala at around 9 pm in Gandhinagar. The child’s father – Sachin Dixit, who allegedly stranded the kid has been identified and as per the preliminary reports, it has emerged that the child did not belong to Dixit’s wife.
Dixit had a live-in relationship with a woman named Mehendi a.k.a. Heena. Sachin Dixit was in police custody where he confessed to choking Shivansh’s mother and his live-in partner to death.
Detention of the alleged father has been done. However, the investigations are still ongoing.
