Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ravan and invited a backlash from the BJP. Addressing a rally in Gujarat, Kharge asked, “Does Modi have 100 heads, as he’s visible in every election?”
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra slammed Kharge, saying, “The Congress chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, called PM Modi Ravan. Using such language for a prime minister and the son of Gujarat is inappropriate. It is condemnable and shows Congress’ mindset. It’s an insult not just to PM Modi but to every Gujarati and to Gujarat.”
Earlier, in his speech, Kharge said the BJP leaders’ speeches were “full of hatred that divides society along the communal lines”. “The Congress has prepared India’s development roadmap in the last 70 years,” Kharge said. “The party that has recently come to power knows only one language to attack political opponents; it has no vision to take the country forward.”
He said that during the Covid crisis, the BJP government in Gujarat hid the actual number of the deceased. “The ruling party has realised that there is huge anti-incumbency in the state and that is the reason the BJP leaders are campaigning in large numbers in the state.”
Slamming Modi for claiming to have “developed” Gujarat, the veteran Congressman said, “The Congress leaders have contributed to the development of Gujarat. Morarji Desai has contributed to the development of Gujarat. The people of Gujarat have contributed to this development.”
