Congress Releases 1st List Of 43 Candidates For Guj Polls

| Updated: November 5, 2022 11:41

In a late Friday night release of the first list of the 43 Congress candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, Rajya Sabha MP and activist lawyer Amee Yagnik has been fielded from Ghatlodia, currently held by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The Congress list also includes names of Praful Togadia, cousin of former VHP leader Pravin Togadia, and former BJP MLA and former AAP state president Kanu Kalsariya.

In 20 days since announcement of the Himachal Pradesh elections on October 29, the BJP government in Gujarat made announcements targeting a score of communities while Prime Minister Modi spent five days in the state to inaugurate the development projects worth thousands of crores of rupees that stopped two days ago only after the model code of conduct came into force with the announcement of the elections on December 1 and 5.

A related development saw sulking former union minister Anand Sharma has joined the Congress campaign as the Himachal polls draw nearer. He had earlier resigned from the chairmanship of the Himachal Steering Committee in protest of not being consulted in decision making and had cited discontent with the party affairs.

Sharma started addressing rallies on Wednesday and travelled to other parts of Himachal Pradesh, his own home state, since then.

He spoke about the Agnipath scheme of recruitments in the Armed Forces harming the future of the Himachali youth who join the Army in a large number. “You cannot expect people to risk their lives to serve at the whims of the corporate that dictates the new policy of recruitment for only four years,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi tweeted that he was to address two BJP rallies on Saturday in Himachal Pradesh at Solan and Sundar Nagar.
