The Indian Space Research Organsiation will set up the country’s second largest space station in Gujarat, said Nilesh Desai, director of Space Application Centre.
In an interview to a news channel, Desai said it will be located between Diu and Veraval. Country’s first and largest space station is at Shriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
According to sources, the work is progressing rapidly on the ambitious Rs 10,000 crore project.
The Station will support to launches of SALV and PSLVs.
Desai said that Gujarat’s proximity to the equator offers strategic advantages for space launches. He further highlighted that ISRO is now prioritizing communication, navigation, and remote sensing technologies, which account for 70 percent of its current focus.
The Gujarat government has a dedicated Space Mission Policy aligned with the Centre’s vision, aiming to boost the state’s role in India’s space sector.
According to reports, India will launch the first of 52 satellites for a surveillance constellation by April 2026. Reports further said that ISRO will build and launch 31 of these, while the remaining will be produced by three private firms under government direction, with the entire network targeted for deployment by 2029.
Desai further informed that ISRO aims to complete Chandrayan – 5, the crewed Ganganyaan mission and the Venus Orbiter Mission by 2026.
