India registered 4,435 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, the largest daily increase in 163 days (five months and 13 days), while the number of active cases rose to 23,091, said the data from the Union health ministry.
On September 25 of last year, there were 4,777 cases altogether. The new cases brought India’s COVID-19 tally to 4.47 crore (4,47,33,719). The figures updated at 8 am showed that 15 deaths brought the death toll to 5,30,916.
One death each was reported from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Rajasthan. Four deaths were reported from Maharashtra, while four deaths were reconciled by Kerala.
The number of active cases has increased to 23,091, making up about 0.5% of all infections. The website of the health ministry reports that the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.76%.
Both the daily and weekly positive rates were recorded at 3.38 and 2.79 per cent, respectively. 4,41,79,712 people have recovered from the disease, while the case fatality rate is now at 1.19 per cent.
On the ministry’s website, it is stated that the nationwide vaccination campaign has so far administered 220.66 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
