Covid Cases On The Rise In Gujarat: Triggers Worry

A total of 18 new covid cases were reported in the state Sunday. This takes the Gujarat tally of currently active cases to 122.

The situation has been worrying since the past fortnight even on the national level. PM Modi held a meet with chief ministers of several states to review the situation last Wednesday. Among states to have reported the highest number of new cases are Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-Gurgaon, Maharashtra and Kerala. India’s current covid positivity rate crossed the 1 percent mark again, after a two months gap.

In the all-India count, the number of active cases rose by 408 in a 24-hour span to reach 19,500, the data updated at 8 am Monday showed.

Meanwhile, Vadodra city and district recorded nine and two cases respectively while a case each was reported from Gandhinagar and Rajkot. While Ahmedabad district and city recorded one and four new cases respectively, the total number of active cases in the city was pushed up to 53.

On Sunday, Gujarat vaccinated 2,152 persons with the first dose while 16,778 availed of their second shot. The day also registered 12,030 second dose to children in the 12-14 age group, taking the total to 7.16 lakh fully vaccinated children.

In all, 5.38 crore have been administered  the first shot, while 5.13 crore have been doubly jabbed.
