Covid Scare In Gujarat: Cases In Ahmedabad Rise By 88% In 24 Hours

The state recorded 204 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death and 24 Omicron infections in the last 24 hours. Of these figures, Ahmedabad city was the biggest contributor, with 98 cases as against Sunday’s 58 positive patients.

Of the new cases, over 82 per cent of infections are from four major cities – Ahmedabad (98), Rajkot (33), Surat (22), Vadodara (16). The other main contributor includes Gandhinagar (4), Kheda (4), Mahisagar (3), Rajkot rural (3), Ahmedabad rural (2), Anand (2), Bharuch (2), and Kutch (2). Jamnagar Corporation recorded one death, taking the state’s total death tally since the start of the pandemic to 10,114.

On the Omicron front, the state recorded 24 new infections, taking the total active tally to 56. The new cases of Omicron variant have been recorded in Ahmedabad city (13), Amreli (1), Anand (1), Bharuch (1), Gandhinagar Corporation (4), Rajkot Corporation (3) and Vadodara (1).  Of the 24 new infections, 17 had a travel history. So far, the 17 Omicron patients have been discharged, and no death has been recorded due to the new variant.

India reported 6,531 new coronavirus cases and 315 deaths on Monday, according to the health ministry. This pushed the total active cases to 75,841 and the death count to 4,79,997. The number of Omicron cases has risen to 578 in the country and at least 151 have recovered, the health ministry said today.

Meanwhile, The Union Health Ministry on Monday issued guidelines for Covid-19 vaccination of children aged between 15-18 years and precaution dose to healthcare and frontline workers, and those above the age of 60 with comorbidities. The prioritization and sequencing would be based on the completion of 9 months (39 weeks) from the date of administration of the second dose, the ministry said. As per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on December 25, anyone above 60 years of age, who have already received both doses, will be given the third dose on the doctor’s advice.
