Dengue Claims Life Of Gujarat Builder Ashish Shah

| Updated: August 10, 2022 12:23

The man who envisioned building premium luxury residences and elite business hubs–Ashish Shah of Balaji Group breathed his last on Wednesday morning. He was suffering from dengue and was admitted in Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad. He lost his battle to the virus at the age of 48 years.

In his eventful life, Shah became the centre of both–popularity and controversy. In 2005, he ventured into the real estate sector with Shree Balaji Group and catered to the elites by building villas in Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Vadodara and Mumbai. He built over 82 lakh sq. ft of premium spaces in the last decade and another 82 lakh sq. ft of space is still under construction.

Promoting illegal mall with pictures of PM Modi

In 2016, Shree Balaji Group — the construction subsidiary of Manav Infrastru-cture — which was redeveloping the Sanjaynagar slum rehabilitation scheme (SRS) of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) put up hoarding promoting the mall and Swachhata Mission with photographs of PM Narendra Modi and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani. This resulted in controversy as the mall project Agora 2 was yet to get a nod from VMC.

Rs 400 crore financial fraud

Ashish Shah’s name also cropped up in a financial fraud in 2019. Businessman Tejas Patel accused Ashish and his wife Binita Shah– of over Rs 400 crore financial fraud. Patel claimed that the realty firm overvalued its 16,996.80 sqm land as 72,983.52 sqm to avail bigger loan from finance company. Ashish had  shown his already constructed properties of Agora City Center in Vadodara, Balaji Status in Mehsana and Balaji Agora Mall in Sughad near Chandkheda to manage mortgages from LIC Housing Finance Ltd.

When Shah wrote to DGP Saying He is Maliciously Targeted

In 2019, Shah wrote to DGP Shivanand Jha to take strict actions against the owner of Dupont Products, Bharvin Patel and Tejas Patel for hounding him with fake complaints against him. In the letter he asked why  specific police officers were facilitating new complaints against him despite B-summary being filed in earlier cases that have been closed.

The community of builders is in shock due to Ashish Shah’s sudden death. A prayer meet is organised today 3pm at his residency in Ahmedabad.
