Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has stressed that India’s shift towards clean energy must not come at the cost of ordinary households or industrial growth. He also highlighted the need for better infrastructure, transparent governance and development that improves people’s lives.
India’s move towards clean energy will need more than new power projects and green technology. It will also depend on whether households can afford electricity and industries can continue to grow without facing higher costs. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has raised these concerns, saying that the country’s energy transition must balance environmental goals with the needs of its people and economy.
Adani shared his views on India’s energy transition on LinkedIn on Wednesday. The post came after his meeting with Michael Bloomberg in New Delhi. He said the shift to cleaner energy should not make life more expensive for ordinary citizens or slow down industrial development.
He also cautioned against treating decarbonisation as a goal that can be pursued without considering its impact on people and businesses.
Adani Calls for Affordable and Reliable Clean Energy
Adani said clean energy must become a practical and affordable choice for households and businesses if India’s energy transition is to succeed.
He called for efforts to reduce the additional costs involved in adopting green energy. According to him, investment, government policies and effective execution must work together to bring down the cost of clean power.
He said clean energy should eventually become a cheaper and better option, rather than placing an extra financial burden on consumers.
Adani also warned against continued dependence on existing energy systems amid climate volatility. At the same time, he stressed that the transition must not price ordinary citizens out of access to energy, force factories to shut down or slow development in the Global South.
Infrastructure Remains Key to India’s Growth
Beyond energy, Adani highlighted the need for India to expand its power supply, industrial capacity and digital access to support economic growth and improve living standards.
He pointed to infrastructure such as ports, transmission corridors, green hydrogen plants and computing facilities as important for the country’s long-term development.
However, he said physical infrastructure alone would not be enough. Reliable data, accountable institutions and effective governance would also play an important role.
Adani identified four key elements for nation-building: patient capital, physical execution, transparent governance and capable local leadership.
What Adani Said About Dharavi Redevelopment
Adani also spoke about the Dharavi redevelopment project in Mumbai, saying its success should be measured by how much residents’ living conditions and livelihoods improve, rather than by the amount of real estate developed.
He said the project could become an example for urban renewal if infrastructure development goes hand in hand with community trust and the protection of local economic activity.
His remarks placed the focus on the people affected by redevelopment, highlighting the importance of ensuring that development projects bring real improvements to their lives.
Meeting With Michael Bloomberg Covers AI and Green Infrastructure
Adani’s meeting with Michael Bloomberg also covered urban development, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and green infrastructure.
Bloomberg had addressed the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Delhi on Tuesday, where he spoke about India’s progress in AI, advanced manufacturing and green infrastructure, according to Adani’s post.
Reflecting on India’s wider development priorities, Adani said infrastructure should ultimately be judged by what people are able to achieve because of it, rather than simply by the assets built.
His comments brought together two important questions for India’s future: how to support economic growth and how to ensure that the benefits of development reach people without making energy and essential services less affordable.
