US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit India for the second time this year, with Mumbai and Jamnagar on his itinerary. His visit will focus on strengthening ties between the two countries, with no stop planned in New Delhi.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit India from October 17 to 22 as part of a wider diplomatic tour that will also take him to Uzbekistan. However, what stands out about his India visit is that New Delhi is not on his itinerary. Instead, Rubio will travel to Mumbai and Jamnagar for meetings focused on the strategic and economic ties between the two countries.
This will be Rubio’s second official visit to India this year. During his stay, he is expected to meet senior Indian government officials and business leaders to discuss key areas of cooperation, including energy, trade and investment.
Energy Cooperation and Business Ties on the Agenda
The visit comes as India and the United States continue to explore ways to expand their strategic partnership. Discussions are expected to cover regional and global developments, along with opportunities to increase energy cooperation and strengthen economic ties.
Rubio will also meet business leaders to explore new opportunities for commercial investment and cooperation between the two countries.
His decision to visit Mumbai and Jamnagar instead of the national capital makes the itinerary notable. While the announced programme includes meetings with senior Indian officials, no visit to Delhi has been scheduled.
Rubio to Meet Central Asian Leaders Before India Visit
Before arriving in India, Rubio will visit Samarkand in Uzbekistan, where he will take part in the C5+1 Ministerial meeting. The platform brings the United States together with five Central Asian countries: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.
The discussions will focus on strengthening strategic cooperation between the United States and Central Asia. Rubio will also hold bilateral meetings with senior officials from all five countries.
An important part of this visit will be a US commercial delegation comprising more than 200 business leaders. The initiative aims to expand trade and create new opportunities for business cooperation between the United States and Central Asian countries.
After completing his engagements in Uzbekistan, Rubio will travel to India for the second leg of his October tour, with energy cooperation, investment and the broader strategic partnership expected to feature prominently in the discussions.
