Cowardice, Says LoP Rahul Gandhi As CJP Leaders Ashutosh Ranka And Saurav Das Sent To Jail For Five Days

The CJP leaders were detained by the Delhi police after they had managed to sneak into Jantar Mantar on Tuesday (October 13) morning and waved the national flag, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

An executive magistrate court on Wednesday sent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das to five-day judicial custody over charges of trespassing, reported Press Trust of India.

The CJP leaders were detained by the Delhi police after they had managed to sneak into Jantar Mantar on Tuesday (October 13) morning and waved the national flag, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and also the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a protest site.

Reacting to the development, Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi said that jailing youth for waving the national flag at Jantar Mantar is an act of cowardice.

“Waving the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar in a peaceful protest is not a crime. Jailing youth for it is an act of cowardice. Students. Youth. Journalists. The INDIA bloc. Different banners, one cause. All protests are one: citizens demanding their constitutional rights. Jantar Mantar belongs to the people of India. We will reclaim it,” Gandhi posted on X.

The CJP has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government over the arrest of its leaders.

“Ashu and Saurav have been sent to 5 days judicial custody. Their fault? Unfurling tricolour at Jantar Mantar. Show some guts, @narendramodi. If you’re so determined to crush dissent, have the courage to officially declare an Emergency instead of hiding behind these cowardly tactics,” CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke posted on X on Wednesday.

Earlier, the CJP had said on early Wednesday (October 14) that the Delhi police have arrested Ranka, Das and Ajinkya Shinde for charges including trespass, bond violation, obstruction of public official’s duty and there is a possibility that they may be sent to jail after being presented before the court.

“#BREAKING: Delhi Police arrests Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, and Ajinkya Shinde at Parliament Street Police Station in today’s Jantar Mantar case. Trespass, bond violation, obstruction of public official’s duty, etc. They’ll be produced before the SCM Court in the morning. A possibility of Judicial Custody (JC) in the Tihar Jail is possible. They were not allowed to meet their lawyers till late at night. They were brought to Parliament Street PS at 3 AM in a private van. Despite these illegal actions, their spirits are high,” Ratna Singh, the legal affairs head of the CJP posted on X on early Wednesday.
