Designer Rajdeep Ranawat exhibits his pichwai inspired designs in Ahmedabad

Designer Rajdeep Ranawat exhibits his “Pichwai” adorned designs at the Deval’s Multi designer store, in Ahmedabad.

His new collection is based on the store’s owner Deval Patel’s collection of Pichwai paintings. The collection was supposed to make its debut last year but was postponed due to the pandemic. The team did an elaborate photo shoot yesterday in the city and are extremely excited about this new collection.

Ranawat is a graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi, 2000, and has worked as a ‘chief designer’ for a New York-based fashion house and designed for brands such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale, Lord & Taylor, et al. His experience with these brands, gave him enough aptitude to launch his label in 2004 for the domestic and overseas markets.

The core inspiration of Ranawat behind this theme was pichwai paintings & their opulence. “Inspiration came from the miniature paintings and the stories that the artists have tried to tell through the scrolls and motifs like Lord Krishna, cows, the lotus and more. In the photoshoots as well, I wanted to give it a more European feel and so, we have tried to fuse two cultures to give the collection a more global appeal,” said Ranawat.

The designer has created a Mexican hair and makeup theme through a friend’s help. The backdrop is oriental Indian so that the collection can have a global appeal while portraying the Indian essence of Pichwai.

For the future, Ranawat has a new collection in-store called “The Chins” which will be launched by the end of next month. The designer said, “We are launching some pre-Diwali festive collections. So there are three to four designs/collections, which will be launched in the next two months.”
