Last year, the Gujarat frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended three Pakistani, two Bangladeshi and 24 Indians from near the international border with Pakistan and had prevented smuggling of narcotics from the neighbouring country, informed the force on Monday during a press brief.
Out of 24 Indians caught from near the international border, two Punjab-based smugglers were found to be involved in trans-border crimes. They had come near the border in Barmer sector for receiving 15 kg of heroin from Pakistan-based smugglers, the force stated.
From June 2020 till date, the release further stated, the BSF and other agencies have recovered 1,428 recovered packets of charas from the Jakhau port area along the Gujarat coast.
“Charas packets seized are part of the drugs thrown into the sea off the Karachi coast by Pakistani smugglers. Moreover, three Pakistani intruders apprehended from near the border, including a child and an elderly person, were returned to the neighbouring country as part of confidence-building measures because they were found to have crossed the border inadvertently,” said GS Malik, Inspector General, BSF Gujarat stated during a media briefing at its headquarters in Gandhinagar on Monday.
Apart from this, the BSF Gujarat Frontier also extended a helping hand to the marginalised border population by distributing rations, medicines and restoring employment activities during the second wave of COVID-19 last year. Despite a large number of BSF personnel in quarantine, border management was effectively ensured, the force informed the reporters in the press conference.
The BSF Gujarat Frontier dominates 826 km of the international border from the Barmer district of Rajasthan to Gujarat, which includes 85 km of the coastal area.
