Doctors and expects all over the world have been imploring people to mask up in the times of Corona ever since the pandemic surfaced.
Masks, Sanitisation and Social Distancing have been the three weapons in the forefront of fight against Covid as the preventive measures. The age old adage, prevention is better than cure has never been more relevant than in recent times.
Studies show that if both the infected and uninfected wear non-fit tested N95 masks, the protection is 100 times more than none of the two wear any mask. In earlier case, the protection lasts for about 1500 minutes, i.e. 25 hours whereas in later, one can get infected within 15 minutes.
At the same time, if both, the infected and non-infected use tightly sealed n95 masks, the protections lasts 10000 times more than if both remain unmasked. The tightly sealed n95 Masks allow only 1% particles to reach the facepiece and hence the protection against Covid remains for 1,50,000 minutes (2500 hours) whereas in cases without mask, it is likely to protect only for 15 minutes.
If an infected person does not wear any mask, the non-infected is likely to get infected within 20 minute, 30 minutes and 2.5 hours if he or she is wearing cloth mask, surgical mask or N95 ask respectively.
Interestingly, if the infected person wear even surgical mask, the protection to non-infected is longer by several counts. It goes to 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 1 hour and 5 hours if the non- infected does not wear any mask, wears cloth mask, surgical mask and N95 mask respectively.
All pointers indicate only one thing – keep Calm and Mask Up.
