The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a large consignment of drugs at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on the evening of January 16. The drugs, destined for Thailand, were seized following a tip-off.
DRI officials discovered 25 kg of ketamine, an anaesthetic commonly abused for its hallucinogenic properties, valued at ₹50 crore. The drugs were mislabelled as ‘Hydroxylimine Hydrochloride’. However, forensic experts confirmed the substance to be ketamine.
Preliminary investigations traced the origin of the drugs to a factory named Meghashri Agri Pharma Chem Pvt Ltd, located in Jalundra, Dahegam, Gandhinagar. Local police, in collaboration with DRI, initiated an investigation at the factory. During the search, an additional 46 kg of a suspicious white chemical was discovered.
Three individuals have been detained in connection with the case and are currently under interrogation.
This incident follows a significant seizure in October 2023, when narcotics and raw materials worth over ₹500 crore were confiscated during multiple raids at a pharmaceutical company in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra.
