Dwibesh Nath, a 33-year-old, secured admission to the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (IIMA) after nine unsuccessful attempts.
Nath, who first appeared for the CAT during his final year of engineering, struggled to secure admission to esteemed institutions like IIM-A despite improving his scores over time. After receiving a job offer from a reputable company, he chose to embark on his professional career, but his aspiration to pursue an MBA from a prestigious institution remained unfulfilled. Coming from an Odia medium school with limited English proficiency, Nath faced criticism for his accent, which was disheartening and demotivating.
However, Nath’s determination remained unwavering. Despite facing multiple rejections, he decided to take the challenging path and attempt the GMAT as an alternative route to achieve his dream. Even after clearing the exam, he found himself on the waiting list. Nevertheless, Nath refused to give up and appeared for the GMAT once again, and this time, his persistence paid off. As fate would have it, the waiting list cleared, granting him admission to IIMA after a series of setbacks.
Prior to his acceptance into IIMA, Nath worked for Toyota Kirloskar Motor in his most recent role, following more than a decade of employment at Maruti Suzuki. Additionally, he is a co-founder of an NGO based in Jharkhand, showcasing his dedication to social causes alongside his professional pursuits.
Reflecting on his experiences, Nath shared his appreciation for IIMA on his LinkedIn profile, expressing his gratitude for the institution’s transformative impact. In just two months since his admission, Nath has already been exposed to numerous “wow moments” that solidify his belief in the institution’s value. Being at the forefront of India’s growth story and benefiting from international exposure, Nath recognizes the unique position he holds to drive positive change and make a meaningful difference in society.
Nath’s inspiring journey serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, proving that determination, even in the face of repeated failures, can lead to ultimate success.
