The Internation Airport at Ahmedabad is gearing up to be in full preparedness to welcome expected increased footfalls by the end of September. Ahmedabad is hosting National Games and DefExpo 2022 in the coming days.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is getting itself revamped in the area of parking space.
The parking area capacity is being increased from the capacity to accommodate 450 cars to 570 cars. It will have dedicated lanes for different vehicles. An arrival plaza is planned near the terminal. A canopy extending up to the terminal building for passenger convenience is on the cards. Overall emphasise is to enhance the pleasure in the customer experience. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
At present, the taxi parking can accommodate 250 cars. A dedicated canopy extends from Terminal 1 to the taxi pick-up points. The new plan of parking facility envisages dedicated bus parking spaces near the domestic and international terminals. There is no plan to revise parking charges further which had been revised in April 2021.
SVPI which catered to around 6.15 lakh travellers in July this year, both international and domestic terminals are undergoing major renovations. Two more baggage belts are coming up at the arrival area in the domestic terminal.
Ahmedabad Airport is expected to witness the heavy movement of chartered aircraft during DefExpo 2022. In this connection, 43 aircraft parking stands have also been built. It is also expected that business lounges will be set up exclusively for the defence expo guests.
