In a major drug bust, the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch on Sunday arrested a female bouncer and an autorickshaw driver in Ramol for allegedly possessing 34.18 grams of MD drugs—a combination of amphetamine and mephedrone—valued at approximately ₹3.41 lakh.
The accused were found transporting the narcotics without any legal permit.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted an autorickshaw near the Vinayak Park three-road junction in Ramol. During the search, officers discovered the drugs concealed inside the vehicle. Along with the narcotics, two mobile phones and the autorickshaw were seized, taking the total value of the recovered items to over ₹4.31 lakh.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramiz Mohammad Nasir Mohammad Usmanmiya Belim, 30, and Sirinbanu Mohammad Sharif Mohammad Safi Sheikh, 28, both residents of Ramol.
According to police, Ramiz is a habitual drug user who sourced the contraband from a man identified as Tanvir. Sirinbanu is believed to have procured the drugs from Mumbai with the intention of selling them in Ahmedabad for profit.
A case has been filed at the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police have launched a manhunt for Tanvir and another unidentified individual who are currently absconding. Officials stated that the arrests are part of a larger crackdown on the city’s narcotics network and that further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain.
