The Gujarat High Court was placed under high alert on Monday following an alleged bomb threat received via email. Soon thereafter all entry and exit gates of the court premises were sealed as bomb squad and dog squad teams made their way for inspection.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Safin Hasan told media persons that the threat was issued through a suspicious email sent to a High Court official’s account. The Cyber Cell is tracing the origin of the email, and a thorough investigation is underway.
In response to the threat, police teams reached the High Court and began intensive security checks. Stringent screening procedures for all individuals and vehicles entering the premises are currently being enforced.
As a precautionary measure, the Chief Justice ordered the suspension of court proceedings post-lunch. An official communication from the Registrar General stated, “Because of unavoidable circumstances, it has been decided to discontinue the functioning of the Courts after lunch, i.e., after 1:45 pm. The Courts are requested to convey to the lawyers that they will not be functioning after lunch, and also that all will have to leave the premises as early as possible, as a security check of the entire Court premises is required.”
As of now, no explosive materials have been recovered, but security within the High Court remains heightened.
This is a developing story.
