On October 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the UN World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) in Hyderabad. Over 550 delegates from 115 countries will attend the five-day conference. The theme of the second UNWGIC will be “Geo-Enabling the Global Village: No One Should Be Left Behind.”

Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said India will highlight the advances it has made in the sector over the last several years. “We will present the geospatial ‘Chaupal’ initiative, which seeks to connect village communities with geospatial services”, he added.

The minister said that initiatives such as Swamitva, which maps revenue lands in villages, and the government’s efforts to empower ordinary citizens through the use of geospatial data will be a key component of India’s focus area during the conference.

S Chandrashekar, Secretary of Science and Technology, stated that the automobile industry has embraced navigation services provided by domestic companies. ” The conference will highlight the importance of integrated geospatial information in supporting sustainable development and societal well-being,” said Chandrashekhar.

The conference expects to demonstrate the importance of international cooperation and coordination in building a human data and geography community for a shared future and a better world. It aims at addressing environmental and climate challenges, embracing digital transformation, and technological development.
