The Indian Meterological Department has issued a weather forecast predicting light to moderate rain and thundershowers across most parts of Gujarat, Daman, Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli till May 28.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area has formed over the region near the south Konkan-Goa coast following the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the east-central Arabian Sea off the North Karnataka-Goa coast.
It further said that the system is likely to move northwards, intensifying into a depression within the next 36 hours. There is a possibility that it might intensify thereafter.
A yellow alert for possible heavy rainfall has been issued in some districts of Gujarat.
A drop of 2–3°C in maximum temperatures is expected after the next 24 hours. Authorities have been alerted as conditions may lead to localized waterlogging and disruptions in low-lying areas.
On May 22, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu are under a yellow alert as heavy rain is likely in these areas.
For May 23 to May 25, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu remain under a yellow alert.
On May 26, the yellow alert will extend to Porbandar in addition to Anand, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.
Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, and Diu may receive heavy rainfall on May 27.
On May 28, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, and Diu are likely to witness heavy rain.
The IMD bulletin said that similar weather conditions are likely to prevail on the subsequent days of May 29 and 30.
