Four Gujarat Cops Suspended for Unauthorised Foreign Trip

| Updated: January 17, 2025 13:14

The Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay on Thursday announced that four police officers in Gujarat have been suspended for travelling abroad without obtaining the required permissions from their superiors.

The suspended officers are Firozkhan Pathan, head constable from Botad; Harvijaysinh Chavda, police constable from Amreli; and Mahipatsinh Chauhan and Mahendrasinh Darbar, police constables from Jamnagar.

Nine additional police officers are currently under investigation for unauthorised domestic travel outside the state. The inquiry is being led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Nirlipt Rai.

The suspensions come as part of a larger investigation into disproportionate assets involving all 13 officers. In November, the officers were transferred out of Ahmedabad following allegations that their assets exceeded their known income sources.

A case of disproportionate assets was registered, and the inquiry was assigned to DIG Rai.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the four officers undertook a foreign trip without seeking permission from their seniors. Upon their return, they failed to provide any explanation for their actions.

A report regarding their unauthorised travel was subsequently submitted to the DGP, leading to their suspension.

In addition, all 13 officers had been previously removed from their posts in the Ahmedabad Police Commissionerate as part of the ongoing inquiry into the disproportionate assets case.

Sources told a section of the media that the inquiry report on the domestic travel by the nine other officials will also be submitted soon.
