Robbers struck on Saturday night at Vasna Road area in Vadodara. They robbed gold and silver jewellery, and cash worth Rs 20 lakh from a house in Mudra Society. A couple—Deepak Jaising Patel and his live-in partner Divya Soni—were taken hostage and 41 tola of gold jewellery, 200 grams of silver and Rs 40,000 cash was looted.

Incidentally, the victim is the brother of Sangeeta Patel, the elected BJP councillor of the area.

Senior police officers cordoned off the area at night. The CCTV footage is being used to trace the robbers.

The couple had left home last evening in connection with work. Once they returned home, at around 8 pm, three robbers entered the house. The robbers were wearing black masks, Patel told the police. But Patel claimed that they were between 20 and 25 years of age.

One of the robbers pointed a revolver at Patel, while another beat him up. The couple was then gagged and tied up. Threatening the duo, the robbers accessed the keys to the safe. In 30 minutes they looted the house and left. They also took the chain from Soni’s neck and the four rings she was wearing. The couple was left tied up on the bedroom floor.

After the robbers fled, Soni managed to untie Patel’s hands, who then called the police.

Top police officers have swung into action. Gotri police have started an investigation and registered a case of robbery. A total of 10 teams including Crime Branch, SOG and PCB are engaged in the investigation.
