| Updated: May 21, 2024 20:11

Four teenage girls lost their lives after drowning in Bortalav Lake, located in Sidsar village, Bhavnagar district. The tragedy occurred when a group of five girls went swimming and slipped into the deep waters. Despite rescue efforts, only one girl survived.

The incident unfolded when the five girls, all residents of Devipujak Vasahat behind Bortalav in Sidsar village, decided to go for a swim in the lake.

The victims have been identified as follows:

  1. Rashi Manishbhai Choradia (9 years old)
  2. Komal Munnabhai Choradia (13 years old)
  3. Archana Hareshbhai Dabhi (13 years old)
  4. Dhingi Vijaybhai Parmar (8 years old)

The sole survivor, thirteen-year-old Kinjal Choradia, was rescued by bystanders and is currently recuperating in the government hospital in Bhavnagar.

Local authorities and rescue teams swiftly responded to the tragedy, but despite their efforts, the bodies of the four missing girls were recovered from the lake.

Recently, seven members of a family from Surat drowned in the Narmada River near Poicha. Among the victims were three children, and only one youth was rescued by locals. The Rajpipla town police and fire department also had launched an immediate rescue operation, but seven lives were already lost.

In another unfortunate event, six individuals drowned off Navsari’s Dandi coast. While two were rescued, four others remain missing. The family had visited Dandi for a Sunday outing, which tragically turned fatal for six members.
