From Village To Victory: Rajasthan’s Ramlal Bhoi Shines In NEET UG Exam

| Updated: June 19, 2023 16:00

In a remarkable display of perseverance and determination, Ramlal Bhoi, a 21-year-old resident of Ghosunda village in Chittorgarh district, cracked the NEET-UG 2023 exam on his fifth try. Bhoi’s unwavering focus on his goal led to a score of 632 out of 720, propelling him closer to his dream of becoming a doctor.

Bhoi’s journey to success was not without sacrifices. For six months, he separated from his newborn daughter as he dedicated himself to intensive preparation in Kota, the coaching hub of Rajasthan renowned for its competitive exam training. Married at a young age, Bhoi and his wife resided with his parents, awaiting the right time for him to pursue his aspirations.

“I finally laid eyes on my daughter after completing the exam. By then, she had already turned six months old,” Bhoi shared emotionally. Educated at a government school in his village until the 10th grade, Bhoi found himself at a crossroads when deciding on his academic path, torn between the arts, commerce, and science streams.

Fortunately, one of his teachers recognized Bhoi’s exceptional aptitude for science and advised him to consider biology, given his apprehension towards mathematics. “It was after selecting biology that I determined my path towards becoming a doctor. I resided in a hostel in Udaipur and attended a government school until the 12th grade,” Bhoi explained. During his first three attempts, Bhoi relied on self-study, achieving scores of 350, 320, and 362 out of 720.

When Bhoi faced disappointment in his third attempt, his family urged him to abandon his studies and focus on earning a livelihood. However, fueled by his unwavering resolve, Bhoi refused to relent. Recognizing his determination, his family made the decision to send him to Kota for specialized preparation.

“With the sole ambition of becoming a doctor, I decided to embark on my fifth attempt and chose to stay in Kota,” Bhoi disclosed. Throughout his exam preparation, Bhoi diligently distanced himself from mobile phones, opting not to engage with online teaching platforms. When necessary, he communicated with his parents and wife using a friend’s keypad mobile.

In pursuit of his dream, Bhoi’s father borrowed money to enroll him in a coaching institute, while his mother sold her jewelry to support his aspirations. Now, relishing the sweet fruits of his labor, Bhoi has returned to his village. With his sights set on the future, he plans to complete his MBBS degree and subsequently ventures into politics, aspiring to serve the community.

Bhoi’s remarkable journey serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that determination and hard work can overcome even the most formidable challenges. His unwavering dedication, supported by the sacrifices of his family, exemplifies the spirit of pursuing dreams against all odds.
