The desire for glowing complexion compels many artists from the glamour to opt for unregulated cosmetic solutions. These substances are discussed in whispers in the celluloid world.
They promise radiant skin and wrinkle-free features, but their improper use can lead to devastating consequences.
Actor Shefali Jariwala’s death has cast a stark spotlight on these risks, although more reports are awaited.
Mumbai Police has revealed that they found two boxes of medications from her house. The contents included vials and tablets of Glutathione. Glutathione is an anti-aging and skin-glow agent. Jariwala had been consuming these drugs on a regular basis as part of her skincare routine, according to reports that cited officials.
On the day of her death, Jariwala reportedly fasted. It is suspected that she had taken a Glutathione vial on an empty stomach.
Following consultations with medical experts, police have concluded that the Glutathione vial taken on an empty stomach may have caused a sudden drop in blood pressure, possibly leading to cardiac arrest.
Investigators are attentively examining the potential impact these prescriptions may have played in her premature death, even though foul play has been ruled out for the time being.
The police are awaiting the post-mortem report.
To make more inquiries about the nature and possible dangers of the substances Jariwala may have consumed, medical professionals have been engaged in the interim. Following receipt of the post-mortem results, a formal statement will be released, reports claimed.
Glutathione is not the only risk associated with cosmetic modifications. Another anti-aging procedure, Botox, is usually regarded as safe when applied by licensed dermatologists. On the other hand, worries about shoddy or fake goods have increased. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced in April 2024 that 22 women had suffered negative reactions to hazardous Botox, including six cases that required antitoxin treatment for botulism and 11 hospitalisations.
Jariwala was found unresponsive at her residence on the night of June 27. Her husband actor Parag Tyagi rushed her to a hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
She had participated in various Hindi reality shows, including ‘Bigg Boss 13’ and ‘Nach Baliye’, first rising to fame with her performance in the 90s dance number ‘Kaanta Laga’.
