The Gujarat administration transferred Karanraj Vaghela, Superintendent of Police, Botad, to Commandant of Protection of Government Properties, Gandhinagar. However, two days later, when the department could not be traced, their ruse blew off the lid.
Gujarat Police has also transferred the SP of Ahmedabad (Rural), Virendra Yadav, to Commandant of Security Force of Ahmedabad Metro Rail. For IPS Yadav, there is a department with one deputy SP and three inspectors. However, both the officials did not have any cabins.
After the Gujarat Hooch Tragedy, the Gujarat Home Ministry suspended 12 police officials including DSP Botad SK Trivedi who was to retire in four days, DSP Dhandhuka NV Patel, Barvala PSI BG Vala, Ranpur PSI Shailendrasinh Rana and PI KP Jadeja of Dhandhuka. Two more IPS officers were in line for suspension. However, the officials did not take such a drastic measure that can have a far-reaching impact. Thus, both received a transfer order to departments that didn’t have an office. The government tried their best to hide this ruse, but they could keep up with it only for a few months.
To suppress the fact that there is no department or post, the Gujarat Police also arranged two separate cabins for the two IPS officers. Currently, they work in the cabins of Additional DG’s chambers.
Suspended after the Gujarat Hooch Tragedy, which took the lives of at least 48 people, the two IPS officers have gotten away with bureaucratic diplomacy. They have comfortable cubicles and stable jobs.
Always in the good books of the Gujarat government, IPS Virendra Yadav received his promotion from ASP of Anjar in Kutch to DCP in Ahmedabad. Later, he worked as the SP in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (Rural). PD Vaghela is the uncle of IPS Karanraj Vaghela and a retired IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre. Currently, he is the chairman of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India).
