The Gujarat government has set up a consultancy company to rectify the slow pace in planning and implementing of Town Planning schemes across the state. The company, ‘Gujarat Town Planning Consultancy Company’ will offer advice to various municipal corporations and local bodies in planning TP schemes.
The government has identified 843 Town Planning schemes in the state. But till now, only 41 percent have been finalised, and of these only a few have been implemented. Ahmedabad has the highest number of TP schemes planned and implemented. As many as 364 TP schemes have been implemented in the city.
However, in other cities like Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Surat, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar, very few TP schemes have been planned.
The company will help plan TP schemes across the state and use the expertise of officials of AUDA and AMC.
Principal secretary of urban development will be the chairman of the company while the municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad will be its vice chairman. Chief Executive Officer of AUDA will be managing director of the company, while CEOs of Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara and Gandhinagar urban authorities will be members along with chief of municipalities administration and an OSD from the urban development department.
