Gujarat: Ambaji Temple In Controversy Over Change Of Prasad

Change in prasad at Gujarat’s famous Ambaji temple has led to massive protests by devotees. The temple, which previously served Mohanthal as prasad, announced that from now, it would give out Chikki as prasad.

Under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate, the temple committee decided to give chikki prasad instead of Mohanthal. In this case, the ruling BJP and the main opposition party are united in support of Mohanthal.

Meanwhile, on the change of prasad, local Congress MLA Kanti Kharadi, said that the BJP government is responsible for this decision.

“There are seven people in the trust and they are working on the instructions of the BJP MLA Kharadi said that it is hurting the sentiments of devotees. Mohanthal has been serving as prasad for years now. Devotees will never accept the temple trust decision,” Kharadi said.

Gujarat state BJP spokesperson Yagnesh Dave said Chikki should not be used as prasad.

Referring to why the trust changed the prasad, the temple authorities said that Mohanthal is to be consumed within a few days, making it difficult for the trust to send out packages of prasad to other states and countries. Authorities also added that since Chikki could be consumed for months and can easily be transported to states and countries, a decision was made to replace the Mohanthal with Chikki in prasad.

According to the temple authorities, Mohanthal stock at the temple is now over, which led to protests by some devotees at the prasad counter. A Hindu group has even warned of aggressive protests if Mohanthal is not brought back as prasad and also demanded to start the prasad of Mohanthal within 48 hours.
