Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, both incidentally run by the BJP are claiming that the other state is owing them money with respect to the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam. Narmada Control Authority (NCA) is a kind of battlefield with both the states countering each other on a variety of issues.
The Narmada Control Authority (NCA), in fact, in its recent meeting has told both states to find an amicable solution to their issues as both are seen taking an inflexible stand.
While Madhya Pradesh claims it was not paid Rs 1,313 crore for 10,688 hectares of land affected by submergence, Gujarat claims that Rs 5,500 crore has to be recovered from Madhya Pradesh.
Madhya Pradesh complained that in 2017-18 due procedure was not followed when Gujarat used the IBPT (irrigation bypass tunnel) channel of the Sardar Sarovar. It affected assured power generation. MP claims that it should be compensated
Gujarat on the other hand, electricity generation was reduced as water is not being released into the dam by MP. The Gujarat government also raised the issue of payment for cost-sharing of the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP).
The Gujarat government has asked share from MP for the cost of the newly constructed Garudeshwar weir on the Narmada river. MP is not inclined toward the project to use reverse turbines to make water in downstream areas flow backwards into the reservoir and has refused to share the cost.
The Narmada Control Authority (NCA) has advised the states to raise the issue before arbitrators. Gujarat also claims Rs. 1564 crores from Rajashtan, another beneficiary state from Sardar Sarovar Project.
