Gujarat Assembly Elections May Be Slightly Earlier Than Usual

|Gujarat | Updated: September 19, 2022 14:43

Gujarat Assembly Elections are usually held in the second or third week of December. However, December 2022 elections may be held slightly before that.

Sources claim that elections in Gujarat could take place in the last week of November or by the first week of December. Results, they say, could be out by December 11.

Sources say that the Election Commission may announce the notification for the same by the second week of October. The last session of Gujarat Assembly is scheduled to be held on September 22 and 23.

The reasons for elections to be advanced could be the centenary celebrations of the Pramukh Swami of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), a major branch of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya.

BAPS is one of the most popular religious sects of Gujarat and Pramukh Swami’s Centenary celebrations is likely to see at least 10 lac people from across the world for the centenary celebrations that will kick off from Gandhinagar from December 15 for at least a month. A huge boost in tourism, retail and other economy is also expected during this period in Gujarat.

In 2017, Gujarat elections were held in two phases- one on December 9 and the other on December 14. This time the date of voting can be declared between November 25 and December 13.

PM Narendra Modi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal have increased their Gujarat visit frequency. PM Modi is scheduled to address over 12 public-meetings in his next visit that is likely to be in 10 days time.

He will visit  Surat, Bhavnagar & Ambaji on September 29 & 30. During his three days visit to Gujarat, PM Modi is likely to visit Modasa on October 9; Jamnagar and Bharuch on October 10; and Jamkandorna tehsil of Rajkot district in Gujarat on October 11.
