Gujarat Assembly Elections: Parties Fight It Out, Literally

The second phase of voting has already started in the state today. Normally a contest between the two main parties, BJP and Congress, this elections will see a three-pronged fight this time with the arrival of AAP in the state. And the fight is not just limited to seats.

There was tension in Chhota Udepur before the election with Radhika Rathava, AAP’s candidate from Jetpur Constituency of Chhota Udaipur district, accusing the BJP of attacking her workers. It is also alleged that BJP candidate Piyush Patel from Vansda seat was attacked. The incident happened even before the first phase of elections. Patel received a severe head injury. He claimed that the attack was perpetrated by Congress candidate Anant Patel. Incidentally, Anant Patel himself was injured in an attack that he attributed to his rivals.

As the state goes to the second phase of polls, the Congress candidate of Danta in Banaskatha has been attacked. It is alleged that he was kidnapped by his rivals.
