Gujarat ATS Arrests 4 Persons With Links To ISIS Module

| Updated: June 10, 2023 13:47

Gujarat ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squad) has crackdown a  potential terror attack by apprehending four individuals linked to the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP) from Porbandar. Among the arrested suspects, one is a female, marking a concerning trend of gender inclusivity within extremist groups. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend one more terrorist believed to be associated with the module.

The detained individuals have been identified as Ubaid Nasir Mir, Hanan Hayat Shawl, Mohammad Hajim Shah, all hailing from Kashmir, and Sumera Banu, a resident of Surat. Meanwhile, the ATS is intensifying its search for Zubair Ahmed Munshi, a Surat resident allegedly connected to the group.

According to official reports, the four captured terrorists are members of an active ISIS faction, aiming to flee by sea and join forces with the ISKP, aided by their handler, known as Abu Hamza. During the operation, the ATS successfully seized numerous prohibited items, including knives associated with the ISKP.

Preliminary investigations have unveiled that the arrested individuals were part of an intricate ISIS terror module. Over the past year, they maintained constant communication, meticulously planning their escape to join the extremist organization. Disturbingly, their radicalization was facilitated by handlers operating from across the border in Pakistan.

Under the strategic leadership of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Deepan Bhadran and Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Joshi, the ATS has diligently pursued this operation since its inception. The law enforcement agency vigilantly monitored the suspects’ activities, meticulously tracing their every move.

DIG Deepan Bhadran, SP Sunil Joshi, DYSP KK Patel, DYSP Shankar Chowdhury along with other officials were involved in the operations, as per media reports.

This significant accomplishment by the ATS stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security. The successful disruption of this ISIS module serves as a warning to other potential threats lurking within the country, reiterating the imperative of continued diligence and proactive counterterrorism measures.
