The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Friday carried out a raid at a drug manufacturing facility in Khambhat, located in Anand district, and arrested five individuals involved in the illicit production of Alprazolam, officials confirmed.
ATS deputy inspector general (DIG) Sunil Joshi said that 107 kg of Alprazolam powder, a sedative used in the production of anti-anxiety medication, was seized during the operation. The substance was being manufactured without the required licence.
Speaking to a section of the media, Joshi said, “We are investigating how exactly the group was trying to use the powder. Our investigation establishes that this is the first consignment of Alprazolam powder which the suspects had produced.”
Among those arrested is the alleged receiver of the consignment, who hails from Madhya Pradesh. The identities of the other suspects and further details regarding the operation have not yet been disclosed as the investigation continues.
Hailing the operation, MoS (Home) Harsh Sanghavi said, “The ATS officials have done an excellent job. This operation was detected with precision. We are working professionally in this and will uncover further details.”
