Gujarat ATS Uncovers Bogus Arms Licence Racket

| Updated: July 14, 2025 16:01

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has uncovered yet another bogus arms licence racket, this time linked to Uttar Pradesh.

ATS said that the investigation revealed that fake weapon licences were being issued from UP. The ATS has arrested seven accused in the case and launched a probe into the process through which the weapons were obtained.

Those arrested include Sholesingh Sengar, Ved Prakash Singh Sengar, Mukesh Singh, Rajendra Singh, Vijay Singh, Abhishek Trivedi, and Ajay Sengar. The ATS has seized seven revolvers and 261 live cartridges from the accused.

The accused were arrested from various locations in Gujarat, including Vastral, Meghaninagar, and Adalaj in Ahmedabad. This is not the first such bust; the ATS had previously exposed similar rackets involving fake arms licences.

Earlier, police had registered complaints against 108 individuals involved in obtaining arms licences using forged documents. In previous operations, 16 people were arrested for fraudulently acquiring arms licences. Most of these fake licences were found in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Botad districts. The investigation revealed that the arms were procured from Nagaland based on these forged licences.

So far, a total of 25 people have been arrested in connection with these rackets. Police suspect that the racket extends beyond Gujarat and may have links in other parts of the country as well.
