Gujarat Biz Goes All Out To Encourage People to Vote

From hotels to clubs, petrol pumps to pharmacies, commercial entities are seeking to boost voter turnout

Gujarat is set to vote for the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, May 7. To encourage citizens to vote, many trade and industry associations, clubs and brands, have launched drives. Some brands in the food and apparel sectors are offering discounts ranging from 5% to 10% to customers who have voted. 

As part of ITC Narmada’s initiative ‘Power of Your Vote’, voters will get a 50% discount on the lunch buffet and 25% off on the dinner buffets from May 7-9, provided they have made reservations. The hotel management said it believes in the fundamental importance of one’s democratic duty and voter participation in the electoral process. It intends to encourage and celebrate voter turnout in Ahmedabad.  

Ahmedabad clubs – Karnavati Club and Rajpath Club – have announced discounts at all their restaurants on May 7. Voting is a duty and the club has announced a 25% discount at its  restaurants as a sign of appreciation for those who vote, said sources.

Voter awareness campaign

Rajpath Club is running a voter awareness campaign on its wall at the S G Road premises. The club has also offered a 25% discount for May 7 and 8 at club restaurants to those who vote. The Grand Bhagwati is offering a 10% discount to people who vote at its restaurants on May 7. 

Many restaurants in Ahmedabad are displaying standees, banners and placards to raise awareness about the importance of voting. They are also planning to offer discounts to customers who vote. 

In Saurashtra, malls, restaurants, beauty parlours, petrol pumps and other commercial entities have announced discounts for those who vote. Dhoraji petroleum dealers announced discounts of up to 50% on oil purchases. Mobile shops at Astron Chowk in Rajkot, have announced a 7% discount on mobile accessories. 

Pharmacies join the drive  

In Jasdan, six medical stores and two restaurants have announced 7% discounts for those who provide proof of having voted on May 7. Om Hospital in Morbi, announced free consultations for children whose parents can show indelible ink on their fingers on May 7.

Bonanza Saloon in Morbi declared a 50% discount for women who have voted.  As many as 694 hotels, restaurants, franchise outlets and eateries in Vadodara will be offering a 7% flat discount on food bills on May 7 to those who have voted. 

In Anand, more than 500 outlets will be offering a 7% discount on May 7. Restaurants, cinema halls, medical stores and food outlets have given written intimation that they will be offering discounts to boost turnout on May 7, said sources in Anand. Around 50 medical stores in the town will offer discounts to those who show the indelible ink mark. In Valsad, a garment store is offering a 7% discount while another is offering a 14% discount.
