Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat BJP Chief CR Patil, and Gujarat BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ratnakar Pandey embarked on a journey to New Delhi, this morning. They carried with them a list of scrutinised candidates for the forthcoming 26-seat Lok Sabha general elections in Gujarat.
A committee meeting related to the Central BJP is currently in progress at the party’s national headquarters. The agenda for today’s meeting includes discussions on the selection of candidates for states where the BJP plans to contest independently, without the support of NDA allies. These states include Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, among others.
The late afternoon session is expected to witness deliberations on the names of scrutinised candidates for the 26 Lok Sabha seats. The meeting will be graced by the presence of PM Narendrabhai Modi and HM Amitbhai Shah.
The ruling BJP is reportedly considering announcing the names of some candidates well in advance of the Election Commission of India’s schedule for the Lok Sabha elections. Several other political parties have already begun announcing their candidates for various seats. The possibility of announcing some candidate names in Gujarat in early March cannot be dismissed.
The Lok Sabha general elections are anticipated to occur nationwide in a phased manner in the upcoming months of April and May. The announcement of the dates is likely in the second week of March.
