The Ahmedabad city Cyber Crime Branch unit on Saturday arrested a heart specialist who created a fake Facebook page with a post that the UN Mehta Heart Hospital is about to close. The Hospital is located in the Civil Hospital Campus in Asarwa.
The doctor, Rounak Shah, was arrested from his clinic in Himmatnagar. The incident came to light when Devang Patel, 37, who works with the UN Mehta Hospital as a network engineer flagged the issue to the Hospital authorities. According to the FIR filed by Devang, the accused had created a fake Facebook account on which the phone number and email ID of the Hospital Director R K Patel were leaked. According to Devang, the fake message purportedly read, “Hospital is going to shut down very soon. We will stop treating any cardiac patients. We will resume work after April 2022.
When contacted, Hospital Director R K Patel refused to comment on the issue, citing ongoing investigations.
According to the sources, Shah was working as an assistant professor at BJ Medical College from 2014-2016. The BJ Medical College is on the same premises as UN Mehta Hospital. He allegedly wrote the post as he was “resentful towards the doctors working at UN Mehta Heart Hospital,” DSP Amit Vasava told the reporters. Shah had allegedly created the fake Facebook page, named UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, in 2014 itself. He had completed his studies at BJ Medical College.
“Further investigations are ongoing and we will reveal more details as they come,” Vasava told reporters.
