Gujarat Crosses 1,000-mark In Covid Cases, Spike Of 63% In Last 24 Hours

The state recorded 1,069 new Covid-19 cases, one death and 23 Omicron infections in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s active cases tally to 3,927 and the total number of Omicron infections to 136.

The state had 654 Covid-19 cases and 16 Omicron infections yesterday. With today’s update, Gujarat has seen a spike of 63% in a matter of a day.

The state has added a total of 3, 442 cases in six days, as against 455 discharges. The state’s recovery rate is 98.6% currently, a state health ministry official stated.

Ahmedabad remained the biggest contributor with 559 cases, as against yesterday’s 311 infections – a spike of 73% within 247 hours. Other major contributors include Surat (156), Vadodara (61), Rajkot (41), Anand (39), Kheda (39), Kutch (22), Valsad (21) and Gandhinagar (17).

On the Omicron front too, Ahmedabad had the most cases (11), followed by Surat (4), Anand (2), Vadodara (2), Kutch (2). Kheda and Rajkot had one case each. Of the 23 new cases, 11 had no travel history, indicating local transmission.

Scenario Across India

India recorded 22,775 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday – the highest single-day spike since in nearly three months.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, the number of active cases have gone up to 1,04,781. The country also recorded 406 more deaths due to Covid-19 until 8 am on Saturday. India’s recovery rate is 98.32% at present.

The 406 new fatalities include 353 from Kerala, 11 from Tamil Nadu and eight from Maharashtra.

The Union Health Ministry officials also confirmed that 161 new Omicron cases have been detected in India, taking the country’s tally up to 1,431. Of the 1,431 patients, 374 have either recuperated or moved.

Vaccine Registration Begins For Teenagers On CoWin

India on Saturday opened the registration for Covid-19 vaccines for children between the age of 15 to 18 years on the CoWin portal.
