Gujarat has received investment proposals worth an estimated Rs 8.5 lakh crore for data centre projects, with 20 companies expressing interest in setting up facilities across the state. The proposals have come immediately after the Gujarat government announced its Viksit Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026–29, highlighting strong industry interest in the state’s digital infrastructure plans.
The proposed projects have a combined capacity of 10.5 GW, significantly higher than the government’s target of 7.5 GW under the new policy.
Meta Plans 168 MW Data Centre in Gujarat
Among the biggest proposed investments is a 168 MW data centre by US-based technology company Meta.
According to top government sources, Dholera has been recommended as the preferred location for Meta’s project. However, the company is yet to take a final decision on the site.
Officials said Gujarat has now emerged on Meta’s data centre map, making it one of the key destinations being considered for large-scale digital infrastructure.
Top Business Groups Submit Investment Proposals
Senior government officials said the list of interested investors includes some of India’s biggest business houses and global technology companies. The companies that have submitted expressions of interest (EOIs) include:
Meta
Reliance Group
Adani Group
Tata Group
Torrent Group
CtrlS
NexGen
Waaree Group
Paytm
UPL
Welspun
Several other companies
Collectively, these proposed projects represent investments of around Rs 8.5 lakh crore.
Reliance, Adani, Tata and Others Eye Different Locations
Officials familiar with the proposals said Reliance Group is expected to develop its data centre campus in Jamnagar.
Meanwhile, Adani Group, Tata Group, Welspun and several other companies are likely to establish their projects in Dholera, which is rapidly emerging as Gujarat’s preferred destination for hyperscale data centres due to the availability of large land parcels and planned infrastructure.
All Proposed Projects Expected by 2029
According to government sources, all the proposed data centre facilities are expected to be commissioned by 2029. Once completed, these projects are expected to transform Gujarat into one of India’s largest hubs for digital infrastructure and data centres.
Capacity Exceeds Government’s Original Target
Officials said the response from companies has been one of the biggest investment responses to a state policy in recent years.
The proposed 10.5 GW capacity is well above the 7.5 GW capacity envisioned under the Viksit Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026–29, which was launched by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Thursday.
Policy Aims to Make Gujarat a Digital Infrastructure Hub
Officials said the overwhelming response validates Gujarat’s strategy of positioning itself as a preferred destination for:
AI-driven computing infrastructure
Cloud services
Hyperscale data centres
The policy offers a package of incentives designed to attract large investments while ensuring reliable power supply, faster approvals and supporting infrastructure for data centre projects.
Projects Still in Initial Stage
Government officials clarified that the proposals received so far are only Expressions of Interest (EOIs). The projects will now move through the next stages, including:
Detailed project planning
Land allocation
Statutory approval processes
Only after these steps will the projects move towards implementation.
Chief Minister Highlights Gujarat’s Digital Vision
While launching the policy, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said Gujarat is positioning itself to become the country’s preferred destination for data centres and digital infrastructure.
He said the new policy will strengthen Gujarat’s digital economy while creating a robust ecosystem for next-generation technologies across the state.
