Gujarat: Exit Polls Project Clean Sweep For BJP

| Updated: June 2, 2024 13:26

The exit poll results have been released on many networks on Saturday, and they indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is headed for a hat-trick in Gujarat, with the majority of pollsters projecting a landslide victory in all 26 seats.

The Axis My India exit poll estimates that the BJP will win all 26 seats. In a similar vein, the VMR exit poll predicts that the BJP will win Gujarat comfortably.

According to today’s Chanakya, the BJP is expected to win 26 seats, plus or minus two. A different pollster, Matrize on Republic, estimates that the BJP will win 24-26 seats, with the INDI Alliance perhaps gaining 0–2 seats. The exit poll of Republic TV-P Marq predicts 26 seats for the BJP.

Both Jan Ki Baat and India TV-CNX have projected that the ruling BJP will win 26 seats in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state. According to exit poll projections by news channel ABP and C Voter, the BJP is expected to get 25–26 seats, while the INDIA bloc is expected to secure 0–1 seats.

Gujarat is a key battleground in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is the home state of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Vote counting scheduled for June 4 will determine the outcome of 25 seats (leaving Surat) in the state, which were contested on May 7.

The BJP is strong in Gujarat, where it won all 26 seats in the 2019 elections for the second time in a row, confirming its dominance. Notably, in this election cycle, the BJP has replaced five incumbent Members of Parliament, suggesting a planned shift.

The Indian National Congress (INC), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and other regional opposition parties do not appear to have had much success getting back on their feet in the state.

The INC was unable to get any seats in Gujarat in the general elections of 2014 and 2019. AAP, an ally of the INDIA bloc, contested on two seats, while the Samajwadi Party contested on one. This time, the Congress selected candidates for 23 seats.
