A leopard that was spotted at the sprawling Porbandar airport on Sunday was later captured by the forest department and released.
Porbandar airport borders dense jungle in some parts and wildlife intrusions are common. On Sunday night, the leopard was spotted at the airport’s naval base, prompting the forest department to set up a trap. The leopard was found trapped in the cage on Monday.
Forest department officials said the leopard would be released in the protected area of the forest.
The leopard caused some panic among locals in Saurashtra and south Gujarat, with crowds rushing to see the forest department’s operation to catch the big cat. Locals said that leopards are seen in the area and often enter villages at night to kill livestock.
