Gujarat Gets Centre’s Push In Inviting Tesla To State

| Updated: October 21, 2023 13:30

The Gujarat government is trying hard to bring e-vehicle giant Tesla to India ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2024.

After seeking the Centre’s help, the latter is reportedly in serious talks with the Elon Musk run company to bring it to Sanand-Bechraji region or Dholera. It is likely that Tesla will join hands with Indian auto brands giving boost to the e-vehicle market in the country and beyond.
Musk had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York in June.

Gujarat is one of the most industrialised states and an automobile hub. The state aims to contribute maximum in realising the dream of making India a $5 trillion economy and projects like Tesla will play a significant role in it, state officials said.

Gujarat may offer land to Tesla in the Sanand-Bechraji region where Tata Motors and Suzuki have their auto plants. The region has good connectivity with ports, facilitating exports.
Sources said Dholera was also among the potential sites where Tesla could set up a plant, provided all goes well.

Gujarat emerged as an automobile hub with the arrival of Tata Motors’ ambitious Nano plant and since then, the state has seen arrival of auto companies like Ford Motors, whose plant was acquired by Tata Motors, and Suzuki. MG Motor also set up its only plant in India by acquiring General Motor’s Halol plant.
